Narcolepsy coaching is an opportunity for people with chronic illness to talk to a professional who understands.
So what is Narcolepsy Coaching?
Narcolepsy Coaching is just a term I created to help my ideal life coaching clients find me. You may have found my page through the narcolepsy community, and wondered what is narcolepsy coaching? Is this person going to tell me how to treat narcolepsy better than my doctor?
The truth is, when we bring our lives into balance, narcolepsy suddenly seems more manageable. What I do is not actually about treating narcolepsy, it’s about being human. Once we look at the balance of all the areas of our lives that ordinary humans have to take care of, then we can address specifics to our diagnosis. Often we ignore the more basic life areas to focus on our health. But I’m suggesting a different approach to feeling better.
Let’s treat ourselves like humans! Fortunately, all people with narcolepsy are also humans, and I happen to have an inside look at what living with narcolepsy is really like. That’s why I sometimes call what I do, narcolepsy coaching, and other times I say life coaching.
What does a narcolepsy coach do?
I will not ask you to change anything your doctor is having you do. First we will take a look at what you want and who you would like to be in life. We will examine the beliefs you may have personally assigned to your diagnosis and the limitations your doctor has placed on you.
A lot of the changes I expect to take place will happen inside your mind. Those changes may then have an impact on your physical reality. We might discuss treatments to look for a path you haven’t tried to increase your energy.
This new path may involve a new job, a new city, or perhaps just a new mindset. There is no one set answer for everyone.
What can I use narcolepsy coaching for?
Narcolepsy coaching is life coaching. If you are struggling with relationships, finances, or work, for example, coaching may help you get un-stuck. It’s an opportunity to step out of your comfort zone and look at the familiar things around you from an outside perspective.
What methodology does a narcolepsy coach use?
The methodology that I use may vary based on what you need as a client. I’m trained in various modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Emotional Freedom Technique, and Life Coaching just to name a few. I am also training to be a mindfulness practitioner. If you have one that you specifically like to work with, you can inform me of that and we can focus on using that modality for your program.
If you aren’t sure what all of that means, that’s okay. I will refer to the different methods at different times during our program to create the experience that is right for you. Life coaching is a journey that you embark on with your coach. Having a narcolepsy coach ensures that you don’t waste time explaining the medical issues that you have to someone who doesn’t understand. As a narcolepsy coach, I am also empathic and relate to various other illnesses easier than someone who has never experienced a chronic illness.
I’m here to serve you!
One of the first questions I often ask my clients is this, “How can I serve you?” My main motivation is to empower you. Realistically, I hope to teach you the tools you need to overcome future obstacles in your life. So we may work through one or two significant life issues together. Then, you will walk away knowing how to apply the same principles to other areas of your life. This allows you to continue improving even after our program is over and ensures you don’t become dependent on your coach.
Even if you are not ready for life coaching yet and you need a group of supportive people to grow with, send me a message! I am often creating group experiences where you can meet others who relate to what you are going through.
You can book a FREE consultation call where we will get to know each other and decide if narcolepsy coaching is right for you!
